Information regarding embroidery
(Although much of this refers to a maniturgium, it is also very relevant to stoles and amices, so please read through it!!!)
**********************************************************************************************************
Special Notice as of December 2024
My previous embroiderer sold her business so I had to find a new one.
The biggest difference is the font styles and thread colors. These new ones WILL NOT match those listed in the gallery. There could also be a longer wait time because they are a much smaller business, so try to order early!
Please have patience with us as we make this transition!!!
**********************************************************************************************************
Since this is a “custom” designed maniturgium, I can’t give a very accurate estimate as to the cost of the embroidery, but I think it’s reasonable to figure on it being somewhere between $50 and $200 (in addition to the cost of the item itself).
***** Pricing is based on the stitch count and is determined by my professional embroiderer.
So the font style, the size, the length, a logo, etc., all make a difference for the cost. (The color of the thread does not.)
In general: 1/2" name is about $25 to $30, depending on the length; and 1/2" date is about $20 to $25
The procedure is:
1) You will need to give me as many details as possible from the list near the bottom of this page (#1 thru 6). The better you plan it out ahead of time and send it to me in an outline form, the less time we have to spend going back and forth for clarifications.
2) I will then give you "my" estimate of the cost based on previous orders. This way you can analyze if this will fit within your budget. If it is initially too much, you can make some changes to bring the cost down or cancel BEFORE I send it to the embroiderer. Please be considerate of the embroiderer's time, and proceed with an order only if you know that you'll be able to afford it..
3) You may submit your own personal design; however, be informed that there will be a set-up fee of $35 or more from the embroiderer, in advance and non-refundable, for the time/labor involved in digitizing the design . You will need to send an attachment of the design in your email that can be downloaded.
4) When your outline is completed, reviewed by me, and all details settled upon, I’ll send everything to the embroiderer in the order in which I receive it. At times, there can be a backlog and maybe won't even be sent to her for a few weeks or so.
5) Once she digitizes it out, she'll send me both the picture(s) and price according to the color, size, and layout specified. This can take anywhere from three to six weeks or so, depending on her schedule. So it will require patience!
6) As soon as I receive the pictures and price from her, I will forward them to you for your review.
7) Once you look it over very carefully, you either give your approval or suggestions for minor changes.
8) Once everything is agreed upon, you can send the payment by check, money order, or Venmo (if you're willing to pay the fee they'll charge me. Use "@pattidunneseamstress".) Since this is "custom" work, the actual work will not begin until I have received the payment.
The first thing to remember is the details about the maniturgium itself.
- It is about 4.25" wide and about 52” long. (Custom sizes are available upon request.)
- We need a hem allowance/clearance at the top, at the bottom, and on each of the two ends.
- This leaves you with a working space of about 3.25” high and about 50” long.
- However, if you’ll be having more than one line, the space(s) between the lines will also need to be factored in.
- So do the best you can, but we’ll work with you until everything is to the satisfaction of both parties.
- The maniturgium can also be made to a custom size.
Here’s the information that you’ll need to send me in an outline form:
1) Write out what you want written and exactly the way you want it – name, date, verse, etc. – including the use of capitals and punctuation (see the example below).
2) Symbols:
If you want any symbols, – crosses, Marian logo, etc. – you’ll need to send a picture of it as an "attachment" at the bottom of the email so it can be downloaded. However, if it is already pictured on the website, simply refer the number of the picture (i.e. 2-C; 5-A, Marian logo #2, etc.). You’ll also need to state where it will be located on the maniturgium.
3) Layout:
You’ll need to explain how you want it to be laid out on the maniturgium – top line, centered, near the left end, etc.
4) Font style:
Let us know what font style you’d like. And if you want different fonts for different parts, make sure that it is noted. I’ve attached a picture of sample fonts from each embroiderer at the end of this note. Since I now use two embroiderers, you MUST choose the fonts from only one of the embroiderers.
5) Thread color:
Tell us what color of thread you’d like it to be sewn in. The colors used on the font styles in the picture below are not the only choices you have. If you want a different color than what is pictured below, then be specific and send a picture and name of the color from a palette if possible – crimson red, kelly green, etc. The embroiderer will then do the best she can to match her thread to your choice. If you want different colors for different parts, make sure to note what color for which lettering and/or symbol.
6) Size of symbols and text:
Last of all we need to know the approximate size of the lettering for each part, and the size of the symbol if you’re having one. But rest assured that if what you tell us won’t work, we’ll suggest an alternative that will work. We just need an initial idea of what you want.
***************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Here’s a sample of how you might write out this information in a simple, but organized way.
* First line:
- + Tu Es Sacerdos In Aeternum +
- centered across
- font #6
- cardinal red thread
- 1” tall
- two Crusader crosses
- 1” in front of and 1” after the verse
- gold metallic thread
- 3/4" tall
* Second line:
- your name
- on the left side, beginning about 2” in from the edge
- font #5
- mauve thread
-1/2” tall
(as noted below - font #6 (Old English) does not work well at 1/2" tall)
- date
- on the right side, ending about 2" in from the edge
- font #5
- mauve thread
-1/2” tall
Marian logo #1
- 1" in front of and 1" after the text
- centered top/bottom
-A - gold metallic thread; M - imperial blue thread
- 3" tall
(Although much of this refers to a maniturgium, it is also very relevant to stoles and amices, so please read through it!!!)
